Support for scaling-up Variable Renewable Energy deployment in Azerbaijan

CESI has been selected by the World Bank for providing a comprehensive assessment of Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) deployment potential in Azerbaijan for the period 2023-2035.

CESI will deliver:

• Four options for targets for renewable energy development in Azerbaijan named “Alternative Renewable Energy Development Targets” (AREDTs), based on consultations with local Ministry of Energy.
• List of optimal zones for hydro, solar and wind power generation (on-shore and off-shore) using a multi-criteria analysis, together with estimated potential of each zone.
• List of hydropower and VRE Projects for reaching each AREDT, together with location, technology, expected installed capacity and expected LCOE of each project.
• Expected annual electricity export potential for each AREDT.
• Optimal Transmission System Investment Program for transmission grid upgrades for hydropower and VRE integration and uptake, including transmission upgrades, flexibility measures, transmission lines and cross-border capacity increases for each AREDT.
• High-level financial assessment of each Optimal Transmission System Investment Program, mainly including expected annual CAPEX and expected additional annual revenue and tariff requirement for each investment program.
• High-level assessment of competitiveness of expected export prices by comparison with expected prices in the target markets.
